Night of Nations at EASD 4th October 2018
Dear colleagues and associates interested in diabetes and health policy,
every year EASD organizes a fabulous annual scientific conference with increasing clinical and scientific recognition worldwide and more than 17.000 participants, all coming together to discuss the latest achievements in diabetes care.
At the same time, European health care politics often hampers the translation from research into clinical practice because of different regulatory processes on national levels as well as diverse political approaches to health care in general. These include diverging market access strategies for new drugs and devices as well as limited impact of national stake holders on Diabetes Care, Prevention and Research at the level of European authorities. Medicine is global, but in Europe progress in Diabetes Care is strictly regulated by the EU, including the European parliament, commissions, and authorities.
As president of the national diabetes association of Germany (Deutsche Diabetes Gesellschaft / DDG), this year’s EASD hosting country, the DDG wants to invite all presidents of the different European national diabetes associations, key leaders in diabetes care and science as well as stake holders in public health, politics of different countries, and representatives of the European Union to the “Night of Nations at EASD” on 4th October 2018. Enjoy the great atmosphere of the historical location Hotel Oderberger, Oderberger street 56-57 in Berlin.
The event starts at 6.30 p.m. (Shuttle by bus from Messe Berlin, south entrance, parking lot no.14, starts at 6.10 p.m.)
At this meeting we want to discuss for Diabetes Care, Prevention, and Research the broader perspective of:
• big data for clinical medicine and research: regulatory options and data safety
• new drugs, new devices, new options in monitoring and by algorithms: what changes in diabetes care?
• clinical inertia: what are barriers in translating evidence into care?
Furthermore, it is intended that this meeting initiates position papers as „Call for Action“ in european health policy in the field of diabetes.
This activity aims to be synergistic to the EASD conference in Berlin with focus on the translation of diabetes affaires into political activities. „One Voice for Bruxelles“ should help to foster our common national diabetes interests at the European level and should help to improve diabetes care and prevention in the end.
We would be very grateful in the name of the DDG as well –we are sure- in the name of all participating countries, if you and 3-4 opinion leader or associates from your country could participate in the meeting.
